Автор прослеживает формирование «новой модели» университетского образования в Британских колониях Северной Америки в ходе религиозной полемики и драматичных событий эпохи Первого «Великого Пробуждения» середины XVIII в. Особенно отмечена роль пуританизма в распространении грамотности и создании первых колледжей новоанглийского региона.

Abstract. The author analyzes the Shaping of a “new model” of university education in the British colonies of North America as the result of religious debates and dramatic events of the First Great Awakening of mid XVIII-th century. The author pays particular attention to the role of Puritanism in the spreading of literacy and foundation of the first colonial colleges in New England.
